One of my biggest pet peeves is the “no life” insult that many tend to use on the internet when they can’t think of anything else better to say. It’s a generic insult that almost never offends and actually makes me laugh a little when I notice its usage.
It’s most commonly used in situations where someone rudely critiques a website, steals content, or does something else offensive. Then, the “blogger victim” posts what this person did and gets people all riled up, accusing the perpetrator of lacking a social life. It normally comes out in one of the following forms:
or the simplistic
Now don’t get me wrong. I hate rudeness/stealing as much of the next guy, but for heaven’s sakes, at least come up with a decent response that actually makes sense if you plan on making someone feel bad. After all, posting a malicious comment or stealing a graphic can take a person as little as a few minutes. It won’t cause his social life to completely collapse or make his life fast forward eighty years. So why say it and make yourself look like an idiot?
I know I’m probably taking this a little too seriously, but I see this “trend” all the time and am simply tired of it. So please. If you’re going to comment on a bad situation, make yourself look like you have a few brain cells left and come up with a well-thought-out response instead of saying the usual “he has no life”. Otherwise, don’t say anything at all.
